Beams & Things: The Essentials

Our Story

After the civil war many property owners began building post and beam barns for their various needs. After over 150 years many of these structures are beginning to show signs of disrepair. The beautiful beams that make up these buildings however, have another lifetime to live. This is where at Beams & Things we take pride in locating these individual hand hewn pieces and giving them new purpose. Visit our site often as we are always adding new and unique items.

Welcome to Beams & Things

Giving Century Old Beams New Life

We are always searching for old hand hewn beams to repurpose into unique and useful pieces.  We prefer "hand hewn" over "sawn" beams because of their timeless beauty and story that each individual piece tells. These 150+ year old works of art are becoming harder to find as time takes it's toll on the few that still remain in circulation. Species will vary with supply. Typical regional beams may be oak, poplar, pine, fir, beech, chestnut, or whatever was available where the structure was built. Please enjoy looking thru our products and don't hesitate to ask questions. We are always looking for comments and ideas. Thank You, Jerry Dean  Designer/Builder
